Birth and Genealogy of Imam Bukhari

Imam Bukhari was born on Friday 13th Shawwal in 194 A.H. 810 A.D. in Bokhara, Khorasan (now known as Uzbekistan) in a noble family. His name is Mohammad. Imam Bukhari's nickname is Abu Abdullah. And his title is Ameerul Mumineen Fil Hadith. He is called Bokhari because he was born in Bokhara. The full name of Imam Bukhari (RA) is Muhammad Ismail bin Ibrahim bin Mughirah bin Bardibah. His father's name is Ismail and his grandfather's name is Ibrahim. No one knows the identity of Imam Bokhari's grandfather. But his father Ismail was a well-known figure in the Muslim world. Imam Bukhari's father was a Muhaddith. It is known from history that Imam Malek and Imam Abdullah Ibn Mubarak were their disciples.

Childhood of Imam Bukhari (RA).

Imam Bukhari's father died when he was a child. After his father's death, he was brought up by his mother. When he reached the age of 10, he became interested in learning. He memorized the Holy Quran at a young age. He is doing free education during his childhood. At the age of 16, he completed the famous books of Hadith. Imam Bukhari (R.A.) became blind in his childhood and by the grace of Allah, his mother's prayers healed his eyesight.

The sharpness of the memory of Imam Bukhari

Imam Bokhari's memory and voice were very keen since his childhood. He performed Hajj at the age of 18. He started studying hadith while performing Hajj. He collected hadith from more than a thousand muhaddis. Imam Bukhari could memorize six hundred thousand hadiths. Scholars say, Imam Bukhari (RA): Any book he looked at once, he would memorize it. When his teachers used to teach hadiths, other classmates would take note of them. But he didn't take notes. When his classmates ask him to take notes, he says nothing. Later, when his classmates forced him to take notes, he said, bring your notes. He recited the hadiths to them successively as they brought the notes. He recited about 15000 hadiths in that assembly. Imam Bukhari: He himself said, I have memorized one hundred thousand Sahih Hadith and two hundred thousand Zaif Hadith.
Traveling to collect Hadith: He worked hard to collect Hadith. He traveled to different countries for the purpose of collecting hadiths. Where the Muhaddis lived. He used to collect hadith from there. Apart from Khorasan, he used to travel to other countries to collect hadiths. Notable among them are Makkah, Madinah, Iraq, Syria, Egypt, Hijra Baghdad and many other cities.

Worship and Abstinence: Imam Bukhari RA was always busy in the practice of Hadith, but he did not lag behind in worship. He recited the Qur'an once a day during the month of Ramadan. Again in the month of Ramadan, after the Taraweeh prayer, every three nights, Majid used to give one Khatam of the Qur'an. Imam Abu Hatim (RA) said, Imam Bukhari (RA) used to pray a total of 13 rakats of Tahajjud every last night.
Philanthropy and Generosity:- Imam Bukhari was the owner of a lot of wealth. Imam Abu Hatim said Imam Bukhari had some land. He used to get 700,000 dirhams for renting them every year. He used to spend some money personally. And all the dirhams he used to acquire knowledge. He used to eat less food i.e. cucumber, melon, and vegetables. Imam Bukhari used to help poor people. He used to help those who were in need among the muhaddis.

Opinions of scholars about Imam Bukhari:-
• Imam Tirmidhi (RA) said, I did not see anyone in the land of Iraq and Khorasan more knowledgeable than Imam Bukhari about the Illat, history and chain of hadith.
• Imam Ahmad bin Hanbal said, no one else was born like Imam Bokhari in the land of Khorasan.
• Imam Abu Hatim Razi said that all the Muhaddiths arrived in Baghdad. The most knowledgeable among them is Imam Bukhari.
• Ali bin Hajar said, I do not know that there is anyone else like him.

Death and Burial of Imam Bukhari:- Imam Bukhari died in Saramkand on the 1st Shawwal of 256 Hijri, 31st August 870 AD, Friday night. He was cremated the next day on Saturday after Zohar at the Khartanga site in Samarkand. His shrine is located there.
